Why fused glass?

Glass is beautiful, water and heat proof and is a very hardwearing material.  You can purchase a range of plain glass tiles from many outlets but fused glass has a depth, originality and an irresistible tactility not available off the shelf.  Colours and sizes can be altered and made to measure giving you an original work of art and focal point in any part of the home.

Will the colour fade?

Fused glass will not fade or warp in strong sunlight or high moisture areas making it ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and a wide range of other architectural projects. Strong sunlight or feature lighting falling upon an area of glass will only enhance its properties further.  Wall art can therefore be positioned anywhere, unlike canvas based art.

Where is it most suitable for?

Cooker splashbacks, shower screens, sink areas or anywhere you might use ceramic tiles or granite.  Due to the feature bubbles prevalent in the tiles and smooth surface, however, I would not recommend fused glass to be used on floors.

How should the wall be prepared?

Obviously, glass is transparent.  With the addition of your chosen colours and other inclusions, some of that transparency is lessened.  All that is needed is a flat wall painted to the chosen background colour at least 4-5 days prior to the glass being installed so as to ensure it is thoroughly dry.

Can the glass be cut?

As each piece is handmade and specific for the space, no cutting should be required other than at the making stage.  A cut edge would stand out against the rest of the tiles and, if carefully planned, the design would work around any tricky areas.  Generally speaking, plug sockets tend not to be in areas behind cookers or in showers!  Most designs in the range can be made in any size up to 1900x900mm.

It seems expensive compared to ceramic tiles.

This is a bespoke product.  All the tiles/splashbacks are made to order to your specific size and colour.  Each is unique and individually handmade and you will have a statement wall to finish off your room beautifully.  Prices are comparable with handmade ceramic tiles.  However, compared with ceramic, glass has a wider range of guaranteed repeatable colours which are more stable in the firing should a very large repeat pattern be required.

Do you make any other glass products?

Additional pieces are available to add the finishing touch and complete the look including matching coasters, platters, clocks, cake stands and bowls.  Wall art can be created for any room in the home and panels can be incorporated into window units and/or doors in order to provide privacy combined with a uniquely personal piece of art.
